Get PriceAug 12, 2020· In the mining cycle, drill and blast (D&B) is arguably the first and most important step to get right. D&B operations impact the entire mining process, from mining equipment efficiency, through crushing and grinding circuit performance, to recoveries and final product quality. Costs and energy usage increase throughout the comminution process.
First, we drillholes in the ground and fill them with explosive. After the rock has been broken up by blasting, it is loaded into giant haul trucks using large shovels and front-end loaders. Rock containing gold, copper and other valuable minerals is hauled away for processing and waste rock is taken to a separate area for storage.
The mining processinvolves the excavation of large amounts of waste rock to remove the desired mineral ore. The ore is then crushed into finely ground tailings for chemical processing and separation to extract the target minerals.
Blast hole Drillingis a technique used in mining whereby a hole is drilled into the surface of the rock, packed with explosive material, and detonated. The aim of this technique is to induce cracks in the inner geology of the surrounding rock, in order to facilitate further drilling and associated mining activity.
How Explorers develop an exploration strategy, how they develop an exploration model and design an exploration program and select the optimal exploration tools to carry out that program. As usual of the talk will end with a series of learning points from this talk. There are two fundamental truths about the exploration industry; the first is that most exploration programs are doomed to failure ...
There are five basic steps to drilling the surface hole: Place the drill bit, collar and drill pipe in the hole. Attach the kelly andturntable, and begin drilling. As drilling progresses, circulate mud through the pipe and out of the bit to float the rock cuttings out of the hole.
The process begins bydrilling a hole deep into the earth. To do this, a long bit attached to a "drilling string" is used. The bit varies in diameter from five to 50 inches. After each section is drilled, a steel pipe slightly smaller than the hole diameter is dropped in and often cement is used to fill the gap.

Asdrillingprogresses, circulate mud through the pipe and out of the bit to float the rock cuttings out of the hole. Add new sections (joints) ofdrillpipes as the hole gets deeper. Remove (trip out) thedrillpipe, collar and bit when the pre-set depth (anywhere from a few …

Mining-Mining - Horizontal openings: drifts: All horizontal or subhorizontal development openings made in a mine have the generic name of drift. These are simply tunnels made in the rock, with a size and shape depending on their use—for example, haulage, ventilation, or exploration. A drift running parallel to the ore body and lying in the footwall is called a footwall drift, and drifts ...
Drilling. Most blasting in mines involves charging explosives into holes drilled in rock. The entrance or mouth of a drill hole is called the collar and the end is the toe. Drilling is still carried out in some cases, in the ASM sector, by hand, using a hammer and chisel. This is obviously tedious and slow, especially in hard-rock mining conditions.
The mining industry distinguishes between three types of drilling. Exploration drilling: This involves drilling for rock sample collection. The purpose of collecting samples is to examine the...

Toxic vapors can also be dispersed during mining processes, and this affects the quality of the air. The mining process can also affect the soil and the water resources through scarring and erosion. Drainage of mines can lead to water contamination and should be carefully controlled at all times. The soils can be contaminated by heavy metals. A common problem when drilling or mining, is called Acid Mine Drainage.
